Ingredients
Our bars are handcrafted using the cold-process method, where oils and sodium hydroxide undergo saponification to create soap. We use a variety of oils, botanicals, clays, and essential oils, each selected for what it brings to the finished product. At the foundation of every batch are our carrier oils.
Olive Oil
Olive oil is produced from the fruit of the olive tree (Olea europaea) and is one of the primary oils used in our soaps. Rich in oleic acid, it is valued for the mild, conditioning qualities it brings to a finished bar. We use refined olive oil because its consistent composition, light color, and neutral scent make it an excellent base for soapmaking, allowing the colors and scents of our botanicals and essential oils to stand out.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is extracted from the fruit of the coconut palm (Cocos nucifera) and is used in our soaps for the hardness, cleansing ability, and bubbly lather it contributes to a finished bar. We use extra virgin organic coconut oil that is cold-pressed, meaning the oil is mechanically extracted without the use of chemical solvents or high-heat refining. Our coconut oil is certified organic by QAI and is Non-GMO.
Beef Tallow
Beef tallow is a traditional soapmaking fat that creates a hard, long-lasting bar with a rich, creamy lather. Its fatty acid composition, particularly its high levels of stearic and palmitic acids, contributes hardness and stability, while oleic acid helps create a milder, more conditioning bar. We use deodorized beef tallow, which has been refined to remove the characteristic odor while retaining the qualities that make tallow an excellent soapmaking fat.
Castor oil
Castor oil is a thick, plant-based oil pressed from the seeds of the castor plant (Ricinus communis). In soapmaking, it is valued for its unusually high concentration of ricinoleic acid, a fatty acid that helps support and stabilize lather. We use castor oil in small amounts to complement our other oils, helping produce a rich, creamy lather with fuller, more persistent bubbles.
Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil is derived from the seeds of the jojoba shrub (Simmondsia chinensis), a hardy plant native to the deserts of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. Unlike most plant oils, jojoba is technically a liquid wax composed primarily of wax esters. We use jojoba oil exclusively in our shampoo bars, where it complements the other oils in the formula and contributes conditioning qualities to the finished bar.
